Love and Hate on a Plate - 29 February 2012
So our first public event of the year is coming up on 29 February 2012 and our theme is "Love and Hate on a Plate".
The idea behind these events is to showcase farmers and/or their products. This event I want to highlight Mandy Simon our chicken farmer. She will attend and give a brief outline on her love of chickens (as well as how she farms). I will do a short bit on the collective hate of the mass chicken market. As our featured chef of the evening Allistair Lawrence (Executive Chef from award winning "roots" restaurant in Kromdraai) competes head to head with my partner in our retail shop - Nicky Gibbs (ex-Executive Chef Westcliff Hotel) - to produce the best 3 course chicken and egg themed dinner.
The starter for the evening is our educational bit - blind tasting of Mandy's chicken versus Chubby Chicken Free Range versus good ol' phosphate pumped rubbish. Here we do a simple roasting off of the birds on the bone and each person gets a bit of each type of chicken on a plate to score and discuss.
Then onto the food of the evening ....
Starters, Mains and Dessert - "love" versus "hate".
Its up to our two chefs to "wow" you - the guest - into voting for them. The stakes are high and the competition fierce!
The event will be held in Parkhurst. Meeting place is Braeside Meat Market (corner 4th Avenue and 10th Street) where we will then walk our guests to the mystery outdoor event.

Finally you get to enjoy a wonderful meal comprising your perfectly cooked meat, salads and sides and finally a scrumptious dessert served with coffee. All of this costs only R200. Spaces are limited to 10 people and the first to book and pay will be able to attend. Braai course photo courtesy www.susangreig.co.za.
